Description
In Philippine mythology, Mayari was the daughter of Bathala to a mortal woman. Mayari is the Goddess of the Moon, as well as War, Hunt and Beauty. She lost her one eye after losing a war against Apolaki (God of the Sun), and this painting is that exact moment. Apolaki apologized to Mayari and relented to Mayari’s proposal to rule each half of the day. Since then, Apolaki ruled the earth during the day, while Mayari ruled the world every night. However, her light shines dimmer because of her lost eye.
