Hagibis is one of the earliest fictional superheroes in the history of the Philippines. He’s a character from the comic book with a similar name created by Francisco V. Coching in 1947. Coching is a Filipino comic book artist and is widely considered as the pioneer and father of Filipino comics. Hagibis is also one of the longest serializations (15 yrs) in the history of Filipino comics published in Liwayway magazine.

In this painting of Hagibis who has a Tarzan-like appearance and super-human strength, is about to slay the Tikbalang. Tikbalang is a mythical Aswang (monster) in Philippine folklore that has a huge human-like figure with the head of a horse.
