Description

In ancient Philippine people belief, the eclipse is caused by the serpent-like beast, Bakunawa. Bakunawa’s attempt to devour the sun caused darkness and fear to the indigenous people. During such an event, the Bakunawa is confronted and slayed by the sun god, Apolaki and restores light.

This myth somehow always reminds me of the tale of Icarus, reminding us not to fly too close to the sun.
